Lineage Societies

Many genealogists enjoy sharing the accomplishments of their ancestors with others who share a similar history. You may be eligible to join one of these popular U.S. lineage societies.

Daughters of the American Revolution
Did one of your ancestors fight in the American Revolutionary War? Connect with other women who share your family history through the DAR.
Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War
Women descended from Civil War veterans who fought for the Union are eligible for membership in this society.
The Hereditary Society
Find a complete list of active United States Hereditary Societies here.
Sons of Confederate Veterans
Membership in this organization is open to any male descended from a Confederate veteran who served honorably in the Civil War.
Sons of the American Revolution
The NSSAR, or National Society, Sons of the American Revolution, is the leading lineage society for men who can trace their family tree back to an ancestor who fought in the Revolutionary War.
Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War
Male descendents of Civil War Union veterans are eligible for membership in this fraternal organization dedicated to preserving the memory of heroes who fought to save the Union.
United Daughters of the Confederacy
Women with an ancestor who served on the Confederate side of the Civil War are eligible for membership in this patriotic organization.
